My students need bean bag seating, Wobble cushions, yoga mats, clipboards and stand up desks to help them be more active during the day and to find a space that is comfortable for them.
In less than a month, I will get to meet my new students, and I am so excited. I can't wait to help them learn and explore new ideas!
My class will be a mix of boys and girls with a variety of learning styles and interests.
They will be eager and ready to learn.
In our small town, over 60% of our students are on free or reduced lunch, so I always want to help wherever I can. This project would open up great opportunities for us.
My Project
I have noticed that my second graders get a little wiggly as the day goes on. Many of them ask me if they can lay on the rug up front during math or sit on a reading cushion that I have. I learned more about flexible seating and how sitting in the same chair all day long isn't what is always best for my students. Having a choice of where to sit has been proven to help with student learning and behavior. Having the opportunity to be more active while learning will also help with attention issues. Being able to have these options will help students get their 60 minutes of activity each day. The more active they get to be, the easier it will be for them to learn!
My students want and ask for flexible seating in our classroom.
This project is kid-inspired and would give them what they so want!
The wobble seats will give my students a disc that will allow them to move and wiggle while working, rather than traditional stationary chairs. The lap desks will allow my students to have a flat surface to write on while sitting anywhere in the classroom. The bean bag chairs will be used at our reading station. The yoga mats will allow students to stretch out throughout the day. The stand up desks will allow them the chance to stand, stretch, and move all day if they'd like.
With limited amount of recess each day, these options will allow my students to be active and move all day. My students want and need these to get at least 60 minutes of activity each day!
