Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! I'm sure many teachers have said this, but mine really are! First, they are a cooperative bunch of 13 fourth graders who love to work in small groups to reinforce lessons. At times some of my students may struggle with whole class mini-lessons, but accessing a teacher during small group on the rug really pushes their thinking and understanding! Small group instruction has also become an empowering tool for all of my students. Students find enjoyment and leadership opportunities in assisting one other. They are engaged and eager to learn. In my classroom, I have a variety of learners and small group instruction presents the opportunity to meet all of their needs.

Students persevere, rely on, and encourage one another when given a group task that requires productive struggle.

When given chart paper or an easel with markers, my students really propel themselves as leaders by asking one another questions, holding each other accountable and holding meaningful discussions. Our class is in constant bloom, learning new writing techniques, reading strategies, and mathematical thinking strategies.

My Project

Flexible seating options will be utilized daily during whole group as well as small group and independent instruction. Children learn best when they can feel comfortable and when they have choice. Providing access to a variety of seating options will allow our students to be more engaged and excited to learn!

My students love to work in small groups with their peers!

Access to seating that is easily movable in the classroom gives my kids the choice and freedom to move around the classroom in a way that is functional and safe.
