Flexible Seating in the 5th Grade

My Students

We are a family! My students are caring and loving 10 and 11-year-olds. The majority of my students come from low-income households, and many will be first-generation college attendees. This group of students strives to be the best they can be for themselves, their family, and their teacher.

Many of my students are refugees and are trying to adjust to life in the United States.

They are excited to learn and I want to provide them with the best learning environment.

My Project

Forever, students have been subjected to sitting up at their desks which are plain, uninviting and lined up straight rows in the class. In all of those years, we have finally researched better effective learning in classrooms through flexible seating. This seating allows my wonderful kids to choose where they want to learn in the class from sitting in a traditional desk to being in a yoga ball, sitting in a comfortable chair, sitting on a cushion right on the floor. My students will benefit from the many options of where they want to learn. I also am asking for light filters that have been proven to calm the nerves of students. These materials will make a difference for my students by giving them a chance to make their own decisions on how they want to learn.
