I teach 20 smart and energetic second-graders in a small rural community. With the school budget being limited, we cannot purchase supplies beyond our basic needs.
My students love to read, write, discover and build.
Throughout the day, students can be found participating in whole group discussions, working independently reading and writing, and conducting experiments in small groups.
A classroom needs to be beneficial to all students, learning styles, and activities. Providing them with multiple areas to learn, discover, problem solves, and work together is what encourages the students to develop skills to become life long learners and positive citizens.
We would love your support! Thank you!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take responsibility for their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent work times as well as whole group lessons they choose a location in the classroom to sit. Currently, my students are confined to the floor, bench, or regular chair at their table spot. As a first year teacher, I do not have the wealth of options that some teachers have in their rooms. Making sure students are comfortable and focused during lessons is essential for our success. The students love the option to move around the room. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desks.
The addition of flexible seating will give students even more motivation to succeed in the classroom!
Flexible seating is known to increase engagement in classrooms. I also hope to be able to give students more choices in where they sit. These choices will allow students to wiggle while they work to ensure that their focus is on our lessons.
