My Students

I work in an amazing school that is in a very low income, rural area. Most would think that this would be a detriment to the learning experience, but on the contrary, they are some of the brightest and beautiful students that I have known. They embrace their time in the classroom and are warm, kind, and engaged. I am looking to increase engagement and help them to improve socially, academically, and behaviorally. This is a great school in need of more resources!

My Project

The plan for this project is to continue to create a classroom atmosphere that stimulates student learning and allows for plenty of movement, as well as a sense of comfort bringing a healthy home-like vibe into a room where the students spend much of their time. Research shows that allowing students to choose where they learn best creates positive attitudes, lending to heightened engagement and a group of students who are excited to come to class. Items requested include yoga balls with stands for another table area and lighting so that I can turn off the fluorescent lighting which is hard on the eyes and ears as they audibly buzz. Also included is a rug for students to lay across, as some kids prefer the floor. When we have students who WANT to be in class, we create learners who are focused and who work hard, leading to positive outcomes in all areas!
