This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Children are very active and require movement in their lives. However, nowadays, children are sat down somewhere for extended periods of time. I want to bring some flexible seating and movement back into the lives of the children in my class.
My classroom has students from a variety of backgrounds (ethnic, social, religious, etc.).
My school is 96% free and reduced price lunch eligible and more than 50% ELL. My students are energetic, enthusiastic, and curious children. Which makes them get bored when they are sitting in regular seats.
My Project
The materials in this project will help support my student's learning because they will provide extra choices for where they complete their work, other than an uncomfortable plastic chair. The materials will also give my energetic, jittery kids some options to help them focus (like the bouncy bands). I also have some kids who prefer to sit on the floor and do their work, but it is uncomfortable.
If my kids had these materials and flexible seating options, they would be more focused and engaged in their learning.
Children in kindergarten already have a short attention span. So, I want to help make that time more meaningful by catering to what they need! I currently have some flexible seating options like scoop chairs and they fight over who gets to use them. I want to have more options for my students.
