My Project

I teach at a low-income school, and many of my students, unfortunately, have a background in trauma and have extreme stress and anxiety. Thus, my responsibilities as a teacher go far beyond the classroom. I try to incorporate some form of “movement breaks” into the school day because research shows physical activity in school leads to better cognitive performance and fewer behavioral issues.

I have been able to adapt my seating options to meet the needs of my current active Kindergarten class thanks to DonorsChoose, and I would like to be able to do the same for my future 1st Grade class next year (2025-2026 School Year).

The "flexible seating" within this project will allow my future 1st grade students to make responsible choices and advocate for what works best for them in regards to how they get their work done while infusing some movement/opportunities to fidget.

Thank you for supporting me and my future class of 6 and 7-year-old students as I try to give them seating options that meet their individual needs. I am excited for what the future school year will hold, and I hope you can help me on my journey to inspire, engage, and help meet the needs of my 20+ active 1st grade students!
