Flexible Seating: Giving Students a Choice in How They Learn!

My students need a bright and colorful rug, a few bean bag chairs, a few wobble chairs and floor pillows.

My Students

"In our classroom we don't do easy, we make easy happen through hard work and learning." This is our classroom belief.

My students understand that there isn't anything they can't do, some things they just can't do YET.

This is why they understand that learning comes with consistent effort. I teach a full class of eager, bright, energetic, happy third graders who love coming to school and they love learning.

My students absolutely LOVE to read and look for any opportunity to pull out a book and get lost in a new adventure. They love to learn and enjoy classroom challenges.

My Project

I am moving toward flexible seating in my classroom.

Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.

I want to begin transforming my classroom with a large rug, a few beanbags, wobble chairs and floor pillows. By doing this I am providing students with more choices regarding where they sit and how they take in information.

Research shows that this can help improve students' grades, increase student engagement, and encourage student collaboration and conversation. I want to continue to enhance my student-centered learning space- keeping the focus on their growth and progress and ways that I can continue to encourage their best learning at all times.
