My Students

I teach approximately 110 seventh grade math students. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have varying amounts of access to technology at home. In my classroom I have 29 computers. The students learn with a flipped classroom model in my math class and enjoy having access to technology at school

The students become most engaged when working in cooperative groups and allowed to experience and design flexible seating.

They love to organize the classroom in different ways and work in different groups!

My Project

Student choice is a huge benefit to students taking control of their learning. I believe that seating choices can be part of this freedom given to students in the classroom. When students are comfortable and have the items needed to create a great educational and collaborative learning space, wonderful things can happen. Students will be more motivated and interested in taking a chance when problem solving and innovating. When students are given the opportunity to move around the room and find the space that allows them to focus best, amazing learning and immense motivation occurs!

I want to give my students the opportunity to recognize their own ability to create a successful learning environment.

The ability to move around the room and find the space and situation that works best for a student gives them so much possession and voice in the educational process.

In getting my students ready for the real world, I want to give them the chance and freedom to choose their best environment. As adults we make so many decisions that impact our ability to do our jobs successfully and I think students deserve this same chance to be creative while in the safety of the classroom atmosphere and setting.
