Help me give my students floor seats, balance balls, and bean bags to use as flexible seating, especially for those students who suffer from ADHD. The classroom should be welcoming and flexible seating will do just that.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are beyond special, not only because more than half are part of the Special Education Program; but they are all obtaining a high school diploma from Miami Senior High. I teach at an economically disadvantaged school, but somehow these kids make it to school with a smile on their face each and every day. Our school is located in the center of Miami and it is the oldest high schools in Miami. It is a historic site serving over 3,000 students in the community.
More than half of my students are involved in after-school activities, such as cheerleading, basketball, bowling, and football.
To add, they are involved in clubs like Best Buddies, Interact, and Honoria. Please consider funding my class.
My Project
I have chosen various styles of flexible seating. Having flexible seating allows for students to collaborate with each other while learning. These type of seating completely changes the mood of the classroom by moving away from traditional desks and adding a welcoming environment.
Since I am the special education inclusion teacher, I would to use seating options for my students who need alternative options to be successful such as the bean bags and balance balls.
My goal is to create the best learning situation for each learner regardless of their disability. It is essential that all students feel welcomed in their classes. Flexible seating will do this by creating a positive learning environment
