This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The stools, wobble seats, wiggle feet, and clipboards will allow my students to work in different locations around the room, get out of their traditional seating, and allow movement to help students focus.
My goal for this project is to create varied seating options for my fifth graders to use in order to improve their focus and stamina.
We don't have a ton of extra space in our classroom, but these items will allow my students to wiggle, get out movement, move around the room, and sit on the floor if they'd like to. All this without taking up too much storage space in the classroom.
My class of 26 has a plethora of disabilities, with a high prevalence of ADHD and other related executive functioning disabilities. Using wiggle seats and wiggle feet will allow my students to engage their core and leg muscles, reducing behaviors. The stools will allow them to be more mobile, working with partners and in small groups around the room. The clipboards will give me enough to have a class set, as they currently fight over the clipboards for floor work and around the room activities.
