My students need comfy floor chairs for reading and to regulate their moods in my calm corner. They also need wobble stools as a flexible seating option to improve focus for students who need to wiggle.
Our kindergarteners are curious learners who want to move! I have a diverse group of students with a range of needs from muscular strengthening and hyperactive needs to students who require sensory experiences to be successful. Flexible seating provides students with an outlet for restlessness, a way to learn more creatively, and a sense of autonomy in their learning. Students learn best when they feel that they have a say in the way that they learn. Feeling physically comfortable in their choice of seatingis just one of the many ways that we can help our students be successful.
When you are five years old, learning in a hard chair on the floor can be a challenge. We are made to move! My kindergarteners do their best thinking when they can rock, bounce, and wiggle. Wobble stools provide a chance for students to tilt and rock themselves as they work without disturbing others! My students will be able to focus on learning and growing in a way that feels comfortable to them. The floor seats will be used in my calm corner. Students will learn to regulate their emotions and bodies by themselves so that they can return to learning after being upset.
