Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am lucky enough to work with some of the greatest little minds out there. I'm at a Title I high diversity school. My students come from all backgrounds. I have countless cultures and beliefs represented in my classroom. Every day is a new learning experience.
Even though they are different, my students love and care for one another.
They are some of the most amazing 6-7 year olds I have ever met. They are hard workers, have tremendous amounts of empathy, and eager to learn.
My Project
After teaching first grade for a year, I have learned that little boodies need lots of extra movement.
6 and 7-year-olds need to move and wiggle around, their brains are activated when they are able to expel extra energy.
With this project, I hope to eliminate typical seating from my classroom. Each of these items will allow each child to make a choice on how their bodies will work and learn. Students will be able to choose from a regular desk, wiggly stools, carpet squares, yoga balls, and donut chairs. Each of these options will allow every child to learn to regulate the needs of their bodies as well as expel any extra energy. This will activate their brains and allow them to stay more focused on their school day.
Along with adding the ability for self-regulation, extra focus, and the needed movement, I hope that by having these items in my class will create a more welcoming environment. Many students have already predetermined that school is not a fun and enjoyable environment. I hope that by adding these fun and inviting colorful items, students will love my room. I want my classroom to be a place where they want to be and where they can learn.
