My Students

My children are everything to me. I love each one of them as if they are my own. Having the chance to provide a better education for them is just one goal I have. I teach in a title one school in a lower poverty area of North Carolina. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some students receive backpacks of food to take home. The students are also provided brand new backpacks every year with all the supplies they will need to be successful.

Although my children live in a lower income area they are not defined by these circumstances.

My children are an extension of me. They help define who I am as a person. They help me realize anything is possible if you put your mind to it. They never give up despite what is placed before them. Each child in my classroom has a unique personality and I want to help them become even more successful than they already are.

My Project

I teach six and seven-year-old wiggleworms in my classroom. To have to ask these young students to sit still in a chair at a desk all day is hard. I find it hard as an adult to sit still for long periods of time especially when uncomfortable. The idea of flexible seating is a new development in education which allows the children to get up and move around as well as choose a seat where they want.

We will be transforming the classroom into a flexible environment to meet the needs of different learning styles.

We will be using tables instead of desks which will have a variety of seating choices like exercise balls, stools, and crates with cushions. The students will also be given the chance to sit on the floor on comfortable cushions.

With your donations you can help students make their own seating choices in the classroom and begin to eliminate behavior problems from students getting restless.
