My students need a unique space to learn. A new activity table and stools for raised desks will give them the opportunity to have a working environment that works best for them as an individual learner.

My Students
The students at our school are welcoming of new challenges and discoveries. Our school is a small neighborhood school with close ties with our community. Our students are a mildly diverse group of children that celebrate differences. Our students embrace new district initiatives with open minds and creativity. Students at our school are eager to learn and apply their knowledge to their own lives. I want to continue to challenge my students to try their best and strive for excellence.
My Project
The classroom should be a safe and comfortable place for students to learn and explore new things. It is difficult for many of my students to focus in a classroom because they are uncomfortable. I am finding that more and more students are in need of flexible seating. I have a few special needs students in my classroom that would benefit from a flexible seating classroom. It may be sitting on the floor, standing, or sitting in a traditional chair and desk that helps a student learn. I would love to give my students the opportunity to learn in an environment that is most comfortable for them. At the end of the school year I experimented with flexible seating, by raising some desks and purchasing some short tables for floor seating. I also used my table that would normally be for small group instruction as my team of the week table. It worked out very nicely and I would like to explore this further. I found that with the raised desks, some of my students needed a rest throughout the day from standing. I am requesting stools for my students to sit in when they need such a break. I am also requesting a new activity table to replace the one I am using for my team of the week table. Students in my classroom will really be able to focus on the task at hand with your help of making my new flexible seating arrangement come to life.
