Flexible Seating for the 21st Century Learner Part 2

My students need a few more options for flexible seating. They love the comfy floor seats and the yoga balance ball chair. The ones we are using now have been great additions to our classroom.

My Students

Think about how you work best? When you are at work what kind of chair are you sitting in? What is the environment around you like? I teach third grade AGP (gifted and talented program) in Chapin, S.C. It is a small town with a big heart! Our school is all about promoting what is best for students. We have a large school with over 750 students. I am lucky to teach 40 of them throughout the day. I team teach with a partner teacher. I have 20 students in my morning class and 20 students in my afternoon class.

My class is very active and needs alternative seating beside the hard plastic chairs they sit in all day.

Alternative seating will give them more opportunity to move about the classroom more freely and provide a space that works best for all learners. Through a previous DonorsChoose.org grant, I was able to get 4 wobble stools, 4 yoga ball chairs, and 2 comfy seats. We are still in need of more options and I would love to provide more flexible seating opportunities to the rest of class.

My Project

I have seen fantastic results within my classroom already from the few choices we already have. We have been fortunate to be able to get 4 wobble stools, 4 yoga ball chairs, and 2 soft comfy floor seats.

I know my students would benefit from more choices and options for everything.

With the choices we have already, I can see that the students are able to get out their energy and stay focused on their work. I can't wait to see their excitement, as well as engagement, increase our new seating options. We are loving the flexibility of choices so far!
