My Students
I teach an amazing group of students with special needs in an urban Title I charter school in Baltimore City. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn. They want to learn so much about the world around them and what's beyond the walls of our classroom. However, the students that I work with bring a lot of baggage into our classroom and it is my job to help them leave that baggage at the door, be kids for a while and learn through fun and exciting ways.
My students disabilities range from Autism to Learning Disabilities and I find that the more hands on and interactive learning can be, the more beneficial it is to my students.
Due to their disabilities, I am constantly changing up my teaching practices and finding new and exciting ways to reach and challenge my students without having them become frustrated and give up.
My Project
I teach a group of energetic students, whom love to learn. Learning some educational material can be a challenge to these students, but they will try their best when they are motivated!
My students need to MOVE while they are learning (they CAN NOT sit still for long periods of time).
In order to help with this, I am using a flexible seating plan this year in order to make sure my students have the opportunity to move around while they are learning. The different types of seats and desks that I am asking for will help me create a new type of classroom for my students. The students will be able to use the lap desks and/or foam knee pads to complete work on the floor. They will be able to use the stools at our small group table while working with me.
I am excited to share these new seating options with the students as I truly believe it will help them excel with their learning!
