Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are new to the middle school environment, and always look forward to a new day at school. You can see the excitement in their faces, as they happily and anxiously walk into to my class. They are always excited to see what the day will unfold.
The educational experiences they encounter brings them one step closer to a successful future.
This belief is reflected in their faces.
My students face struggles on a daily basis, yet they still manage to show up every day, and work hard for a better future. The vast majority are underprivileged, and come from low socio-economic backgrounds. For some, school is their stable and safe refuge.
Day in, and day out, my students see how much their parents sacrifice for them. That is why they are eager; they deeply desire a better future for themselves, and their families.
Our school is a safe place for my students in that we have small classroom sizes, and focus on educational experiences that meet their needs in order to prepare them for college. Teachers and staff work together to create a nurturing, and safe environment that allows our students to grow, and be successful.
My Project
As educators, we all know how essential a student's physical and emotional well being is in order for learning to take place. This is why I want to give my students flexible seating options that will allow students to be comfortable. This way they can focus on the content rather than on how much longer they will have to stay in their desk/chair.
I want these options to be a motivation for my students, especially to those unable to stay put for long periods of time.
The high table and chairs are intended to give a coffee shop feel to encourage collaboration among groups. Students will also be able to stand while they work, if desired. The lap desks with foam squares are intended to engage students in their own personal space. Students can choose a location in the classroom to work in with their peers or independently. The shelf storage will be used to store the foam squares, lap desks, and classroom supplies in one area rather than different location around the classroom.
