My students need alternative seating, such as a low table, wobble cushions, and balance ball seats, because of their disabilities. Movement, standing up, and sitting closer to the ground makes for a more comfortable learning environment for them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special needs students with a varied learning disabilities. Some of the disabilities include developmentally delayed, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, and cerebral palsy. They require varied assistance from speech, to social services, in addition to physical and occupational therapy. They all vary in their academic levels and abilities. They are from diverse cultures and ethnicities. My students bring a high level of energy and a need for movement each day along with the need to be nurtured and reassured that they belong within an environment of champions.
My Project
My project focuses on meeting the needs of individual students in my special education classroom. Many of my students require occupational and physical therapy along with them having high sensory needs. Their disabilities don't always allow my students to sit still and stay focused in a conventional desk and chair for long periods of time. Movement breaks and alternative seating in the classroom would help their concentration and allow them to focus on learning. These products (a low table, wobble chairs and cushions and balance ball seats) will allow them the opportunity to engage and enjoy instruction in a comfortable and flexible environment while focusing on learning and meeting their individual needs.
