This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade students are full of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. They come to school everyday eager to learn new things. My students come in all shapes and sizes and love to move around while learning.
I want to create an environment that is welcoming and maintains their mindset of learning.
Having a variety of flexible seating choices to help them succeed would make a sizable impact. My students deserve the best learning environment, and my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful instruction and accountability for their learning.
My Project
Not all students learn by sitting at a standard desk. I want to transform my traditional learning environment to a more relaxed learning environment with flexible seating options. Flexible seating, such as wobble cushions and bean bags, will give my students an opportunity to choose seating where it will help them do their best work. Having a choice not only empowers students but also offers a change for students who need varied seating options.
Flexible seating has proven to increase attention and engagement while decreasing the need for breaks.
Young children need to move, and research shows brains function best when children are able to move their bodies. I already have stools and lap desks in my class but would love to have wobble cushions and bean bags to give my students more choices. With different seating choices, my students will feel empowered and engaged in their learning.
Thank you for any help you can give these amazing second graders!
