Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a class with students that have many different learning styles and abilities. I teach at a Title I school with an 83% poverty level. Our school is also a "Community School". Many of the students do not have the ability to sit still at a traditional desk and chair for long periods of time due to circumstances such as ADHD, ADD, and Autism. My students walk in to class every day full of energy and eager to learn.
My Project
Research shows that when students are able to move around and are given choices as to where they can comfortably sit, they are able to successfully produce more of what is expected of them in class. I am allowing my students to choose their seat!! Flexible classroom seating will allow my students to sit or stand in a way that will best meet the needs of their body and comfort level. I have chosen items such as the stand up tables with the stools so the students can either stand at the table or use the stools to sit there. I have also chosen four ECR4Kids Portable Lap Desk/Laptop Stand/Writing Table. These items will allow my students to sit comfortably in the flexible seating area, while having a sturdy desk top for their iPads during personalized learning. Also, one Big Joe Roma chair that will give the students the opportunity to choose a relaxed, comfortable seat to work on their assignments. The Platinum Fitness Fit Sit Folding Pedal Leg Machine with Electronic Display will be a wonderful way to help my students get some exercise and their 'wiggles' out, all while completing their assignments. They can also read the display when they are finished to see how far they pedaled during the assignment. The flexible seating in my classroom will assist students in physically becoming more comfortable while they are learning. This will help maximize personalized learning in the classroom for each individual child. Flexible seating can help improve metabolism, use excess energy, allow better oxygen flow to the brain, and increase motivation and engagement.
