Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There isn't a feeling in the world that compares to knowing you have the chance to help 24 little minds full of dreams, creativity, and curiosity. I walk into my classroom everyday knowing that I am lucky to have the chance to give the knowledge and encouragement needed to help my students reach their dreams. Whether it's becoming an astronaut, learning to bake a cake, developing into an independent reader, or earning a karate black belt, my students love to tell me their dreams. I am determined to help them reach these goals and encourage them to "dream big".
My students are 25 imaginative first graders, each with unique and diverse personalities, interests, and needs.
Our suburban, Title 1 school in Los Angeles County serves students with a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds which contribute to their diverse interests and needs. It is my goal to provide students with outlets to explore and develop their interests to make learning relevant and engaging.
My Project
Having a variety of seating options in my classroom will allow each student to create a learning environment that suits their needs. My goal is to provide flexible seating options so each student can feel comfortable and ready to learn. Rather than forcing students to sit in ways or in chairs that are uncomfortable for them, I will give students opportunities to try various chairs, stools, pads, and desks until they find the furniture that is appropriate for them. Students will learn how to monitor their own behavior and productivity when using the various options available to them.
When donating to this project, you will not only be helping me create a learning environment which is conducive for all learners, but you will also be contributing to my students feeling that they are supported and acknowledged.
I am looking forward to seeing my students grow as they learn more about how their environment effects their learning. As a result of the flexible seating options I currently have in my classroom, I have seen students struggling with challenges, such as body control or attention difficulties, find a seating option which works well for them and experience amazing transformations. Students find they are often able to focus more on the tasks at hand when they are comfortable and are in chairs designed for their needs such as the wobble chairs and stools I am requesting.
