I am the 6th grade resource room teacher at a public school in Michigan. When the school year starts, I will have 21 students. The students in my classroom qualify for special education services in the areas of learning disabilities, emotional impairments, autism, and other health impairments. Each year my expectations are exceeded in what my amazing students accomplish, and how willing (and with positive attitudes) they are to take on challenges. Because of the challenges my students face, unique tools and materials are needed to help my students succeed.
My Project
Often, my students require seating other than the standard desk and chair in order to focus. Seating options that allow for movement, such as the stability yoga ball chairs and wobble chairs, will help them to be successful while learning. It is amazing what my students can accomplish when they are given alternative/flexible seating options. With the purchase of these items, my students will be able to attend to math instruction, concentrate while working on assignments from their general education classes, etc. My students will absolutely love their new flexible seating options, and I believe it will make a major impact on their learning.
