This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hello! I am seeking flexible seating options for my special education students. My 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have a range of disabilities that impact their sensory needs, their emotions, and their behavior. Flexible seating allows my students a choice in how they are going to focus throughout the day. My students struggle to sit at a desk in a chair for any length of time. The rug, floor seats, bean bags, and other flexible seating options allow my students the movement, choice, and variety to meet their sensory, emotional, and behavioral needs on a daily basis. My students come to the classroom with a variety of needs from attention difficulties to autism to mental health challenges and everything in between. Having flexible seating allows the children to have options to regulate their bodies in a variety of ways. When a child's body is regulated, learning can occur more efficiently which is the ultimate goal that I have for each child. Each child deserves the right to an education that suits their learning style and I hope that flexible seating will foster more engagement in the classroom. I appreciate any assistance that you can offer to my students. Thank you so much for your consideration.
