My Students

First graders are definitely a special group of kiddos. Learning to read, learning new (difficult) math strategies, learning to use these skills in real life. As most know, first graders are FULL of energy. Luckily, our group, for the most part, uses this to make our day full of fun and excitement. My students are always eager to learn and teach.

One aspect I find extremely special with my students, and the rest of the students in our school is their character.

My students are so kind and always willing to help their neighbor. Whether it be with reading, a math problem, finding their page, or tying their shoe. They LOVE to help. I could not have asked for a better group of students for my first year!

My Project

As first graders, my students have an excess amount of energy. I believe giving them flexible seating will give them a healthy and productive way to harness that energy while in the classroom setting. It is so important for students to have a choice in how they learn and to be comfortable while learning.

It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." - Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children.

I would love the ability to give my students a choice in how they spend their days. One, it gives them an incentive. Two, it makes them more comfortable in their environment. Three, it helps them to take ownership of their learning and understand that they have a say in how they learn.

With this opportunity to gain flexible seating, I hope to obtain a comfortable, engaging, and student-led classroom that is full of fun and collaborative learning.
