As first graders, my students have an excess amount of energy. I believe giving them flexible seating will give them a healthy and productive way to harness that energy while in the classroom setting. It is so important for students to have a choice in how they learn and to be comfortable while learning. "Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." - Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children. I would love the ability to give my students a choice in how they spend their days. One, it gives them an incentive. Two, it makes them more comfortable in their environment. Three, it helps them to take ownership of their learning and understand that they have a say in how they learn. With this opportunity to gain flexible seating, I hope to obtain a comfortable, engaging, and student-led classroom that is full of fun and collaborative learning.
