Flexible Seating for Mrs. Duran's Second Grade Class

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Although I’m not their mother, I care for them each day. I cuddle, sing, and read to them, and watch them as they play. I see each new accomplishment, and help them grow and learn. I understand their language, and listen with concern. They come to me for comfort, and I hug away their tears. They proudly show their work to me, I give the loudest cheers. I am not their mother, but my role is just as strong. I nurture them and keep them safe, though maybe not for long. I know someday the time may come, when we will have to part. But I know each child I’ve cared for, is forever in my heart.”
My second grade students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My Project
Research shows that flexible seating in elementary classrooms is beneficial in enhancing students' learning. Providing students with something of a choice in their seating empowers them, and allows them to change locations and positions easily as needed, increasing student collaboration and allowing students to take turns in various locations in the classroom with a variety of seating options.
Academic success has been proven to be linked to physical movement.
Flexible seating options like wobble stools and cushions or balance balls increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength which in turn can boost attention and focus. Please help my students to have the opportunity to explore the benefits of flexible seating.
