Mrs. Covington from Fort Worth TX is requesting Flexible Seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Flexible Seating for Low Level Readers

Help me give my students 4 Kore adjustable wobble chairs. Flexible seats like these will help students in class with the opportunity to expel extra energy by being allowed to fidget, rock, and roll.

My Students

I work directly with high school readers, who have failed the state test required for graduation due to a lack of fluency and comprehension skills. They require intensive reading practice to close the reading gap, so they can pass their test and graduate on time. Most of my students do not enjoy reading because they struggle with it.

I want to create a comfortable environment with flexible seating, so they can grow as readers.

Studies show classrooms with flexible seating have students who are more engaged, more focused, and better behaved. If my students were to show these same results by swapping out their basic chairs for wobble chairs, then they will show growth throughout the year in their fluency and comprehension skills.

My Project

Imagine being in a high school English class that you dread going to because you cannot read at the level you should. You sit at your desk dreading having to read because youre not good at it, and you count the minutes until class is over, hoping you are never called on. Well, my entire class is made up of those kids. Those low level readers that no one else wants. How long could you work before you became bored or gave up if you didn't have the skill set to read? As an adult, it is hard for me to focus sometimes, and I enjoy reading.

Children NEED to be able to move around and work where they are the most comfortable, especially in a class of reluctant readers.

These chairs will give my students a comfortable place to sit and delve into their reading. Wobble chairs will not only make students more comfortable, but it will allow the students the ability to wiggle when they start to get antsy. The wobble chairs will allow my more active students to release some of their energy in a way that won't distract others.

Flexible seating is a MUST in a classroom with reluctant readers. Children can easily lose their focus and become a classroom disruption, so these materials will help ALL of my students become more successful to grow as readers.
