My Students

My kindergarteners are amazing! They have lived almost a third of their lives in a pandemic. It's all they know at this point. You'd think that it wouldn't make a big impact on kids who had not yet started school, but it definitely has. Due to the fact that older children have had time in remote learning situations and years of masks and restrictions, it is likely that they will be behind in academics. My little kindergarten friends didn't miss school because of the pandemic, but they did miss a lot of socialization due to staying home and not interacting with peers due to the fear of spreading the virus. Many more than usual did not attend preschool of any sort, and it is apparent in their academic ability but also in their social/emotional well-being.

My students are hard-working, amazingly resilient little humans.

They inspire me every day. I have a class of 23 children, which is a lot to manage in terms of seating, behavior, and teaching curriculum, but they work with me every single day to try to learn what they need to learn.

My Project

Flexible seating is a great way to help students feel more comfortable in the classroom. There are many different options for flexible seating but the ones I've found the kids enjoy best are yoga balls and wobble chairs. They are items that the kids really enjoy using, while at the same time not realizing that they are specifically designed to help the kids stay focused and achieve more.

Flexible seating is the best way to help kindergarteners enjoy school and being in the classroom.

Having these options will make our class much more exciting and will improve the social/emotional health of students as well as improve classroom behavior.
