My students are a very energetic and intelligent group of young learners. We are a Title I school, so we are located in a low-income community. We are also in a rural area of the state. My students love to learn and also love to move! As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experiences in school.
My Project
These flexible seating options will help my kindergarten students to be able to wiggle and move while completing their table work. We will use them daily as a seating option for all my students. More students today are unable to sit still and complete work. We need more options today, besides a table and a hard plastic chair. These will help them to be able to move more and address their attention elsewhere. We have a long afternoon of learning, and these flexible options will help my students be able to move and use their energy in a positive way.
