My students need larger flexible seating options that allow them to learn in a way that is best for them. We need 2 Soft Rocker Chairs and a Kore Teen Active Chair.
I teach students with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities. My students are learning so much this year. We are learning how to work together, how to think "outside of the box", and how to create and build using their imagination.
My students work on reading, math and writing as well as life skills such as how to interact and work with their peers.
I have introduced numerous new things into my classroom in an effort to build a strong community among the students. We do a daily Morning Meeting where the students learn to have conversations, ask questions of their peers and compliment each other. Our class also selects a Quote of the Week and the students choose which of their classmates demonstrated that quote best each week. Each week I am impressed by their ability to choose just the right student.
I have a great group of kids who enjoy learning and enjoy spending time together. We laugh A LOT! I thoroughly enjoy teaching them.
My Project
This flexible seating will give my students options for how they learn. Not all students learn best while sitting at a desk. My students make a choice each day on how they want to sit. My older students have limited choices because of their size - yoga mats or desks. These chairs will offer them more choices.
Allowing my students to bounce, rock, stretch out or gently sway has increased their ability to focus, learn and grow.
Most of my students have issues with maintaining focus and attention. I have tried many things to increase their focus but nothing has worked as well as changing how they sit. Flexible seating has been an amazing benefit for my students.
