My students love to have interactive lessons that they can all participate in during our whole group and even our small group instruction. I teach the students who are the leaders in our school. They are the students who go and help the younger students when they are completing classroom activities and they also help plan many school functions.
My students range from the age of ten to twelve.
They are the sweetest and most loving class that I have ever had. They are always excited about learning and to my surprise, they share my love for hands-on learning experiences. We are located in the heart of our community right in the middle of one of the largest neighborhoods. My students all live within about five miles of the school. Most are able to walk or bike to the school. My classroom is full of students who have parents that love to help in any way they can! My school is a school that tries to stay at the forefront of technology and education. We have implemented ten computers per classroom to help supplement every student’s education.
My Project
My project focuses on student engagement in the classroom. With older students, you have to find a way for them to buy into their work and expectations. Teaching reading can be challenging because it is such an important skill but a lot of students don't find it to be "fun".
My goal as the teacher/facilitator is to make my lesson and my classroom as inviting and engaging as possible for my students.
It is my job to present the material and make my classroom as comfortable as possible to give my students the access they need to the curriculum.
I have worked very hard this year to build a flexible classroom seating but still need some help. We have already added small stools, tall stool, and floor seating with cushions. I would now like to add a rug and a new bookshelf to give more options for the students to use. I have quickly found that this technique of classroom management has truly motivated my students to work to their potential and they always try their best.
