This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every morning my students come to class full of excitement, eager to learn, and full of potential. They are all curious, creative, kind, and full of unique experiences and abilities. As teachers, it is our goal to inspire a lifelong love of learning and provide them with every opportunity possible. Our school is a Title I school in Washington, DC and many of my students have experienced severe trauma and adversity in their lives that makes learning especially challenging. About half our students are English Language Learners, many of whom received little formal education in their native language. Despite these challenges, our students are extremely resilient and motivated to learn. Every day we work together to help them overcome these hardships, and reach their highest potential through high quality education.
My Project
In my 4th grade class teachers and interventionists need a small group table to create a classroom environment conducive to differentiated instruction. We strive to provide students with individualized, engaging, and data driven instruction to further their knowledge and understanding of math standards. In order to do so, we are moving away from traditional seating and incorporating flexible seating options that allow us to work with small groups of students. In doing so, we are better able to target our students' individual needs.
This mobile round table would give teachers and interventionists a place to conduct highly differentiated instruction.
Students would no longer need to be pulled from the general education classroom for small group instruction, therefore creating a more equitable environment for all learners.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
