My Project

Project Description:

My students are bright, creative, and full of energy.

They come to class eager to learn, but traditional desks and chairs don’t always meet their needs. Many of my students struggle to stay focused when confined to a rigid seat for long periods of time. Flexible seating will give them choices—bean bags, cushions, and flex chairs—so they can learn in the way that works best for them.

I teach middle school computer science in a small, rural district in Mississippi. Our school is predominantly African American and located in an economically disadvantaged area. Despite these challenges, my students are resilient, curious, and motivated to succeed. Providing flexible seating will create a classroom environment that is more welcoming and supportive of different learning styles.

With flexible seating, students can choose a space that helps them focus, collaborate, and feel comfortable. Whether it’s coding, working on projects, or reading about careers in technology, flexible seating will encourage active learning and boost engagement.

These items will transform our classroom into a space that feels inviting, where students can truly thrive.

When students feel comfortable, they are more willing to take risks, participate in discussions, and stay engaged in their work. Flexible seating isn’t just about furniture—it’s about equity, choice, and creating an environment where all students feel valued and supported.
