Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8th grade students in a Life Skills classroom. Many of my students have an intellectual disability, but I also have students with Autism, ADHD, social/emotional needs, speech and language disorders. Their needs are many and diverse—but one thing they all have in common is their fortitude to learn and grow each and every single day.
My Project
When we return to school from virtual learning, I would like to create a classroom environment that provides my students with flexible seating to support their sensory needs, increase their attention, and address their behavioral needs. Students need to feel comfortable in the classroom. It is a key component in motivating them to learn. Currently, I have two standing desks. When my students choose to complete their work standing, I notice my students stay engaged for longer periods of time.
Traditional classroom seating isn’t ideal for all students.
The Teen Active Chairs and bouncy chair bands would provide an outlet for my student’s diverse needs. Your donation would give my students the ability to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
