My Students

I teach in an urban district with an eclectic mix of low, medium, or high socio-economic background of students. We also service students whose families are in the military with Norfolk Naval Base less than 10 minutes from our school. In working not only with a diverse background of students, I also teach specifically to those who have significant learning deficits. I typically have other teachers in my classroom to help assist with the high range of needs of our students. My students are thoughtful, patient, and work hard when they feel safe and confident in their math learning environment. And that is what drives me as their teacher, to provide the safest and most engaging classroom for my students to want to learn!

My Project

Teaching to a diverse group of students can be extremely challenging! Often times, classrooms are at full capacity with limited seating options for ease of movement. However, if a small group can be formed to help those with the highest needs and provide a more intimate learning environment, students become more successful and focus on their skills instead of being left out or ignored! As the teacher of such high needs, I see first hand how much happier students become when they feel their needs are being met in classrooms that are maxed out! Everyone gets the opportunity to get the one on one help they deserve when flexible group tables are available to utilize for teachers and students.
