Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want my students to have flexible seating! The circle seats will allow my students to sit in new ways that will allow sensory input while learning.
We only use dry-erase markers for the majority of the time they are with me.
As a reading-specialist, we spell and mark our words under the science of reading curriculum on dry-erase spots. The table and marker are their biggest tools!
Post-its and paper clips will allow me to organize papers and my thoughts. I also use post-its in games and spelling aids.
The rug will provide a more warm and engaging classroom. I have tile floor and sometimes the students can sit or lay on the floor for reading or independent work.
I use stickers as incentives in my small groups. If my students try their best and put forth their best effort, they can get a sticker.
Finally, my school does not provide printer paper. Students bring in printer paper to their homeroom teachers. Since I am not a homeroom teacher, I do not get printer paper and I have to purchase my own.
All of these items will allow my struggling readers to thrive and grow in an environment that shows I care.
