Help me give my students flexible seating, including wobble stools, bubble cushions and balance balls to stay focused and engaged while meeting the needs of their busy bodies.
I teach in a wonderfully diverse district in Kentwood, MI. I have students from several nationalities including, Burma, Dominican Republic, Sudan, Mayanmar, and Nepal, just to name a few. My students speak many languages and have many amazing life stories already at such a young age. They are curious, energetic and inquisitive.
Several of my students are refugees from impoverished countries who have come with their families to the USA to find a better life.
In my classroom, we embrace the diversity and celebrate the wide array of customs and traditions that my students have.
We love learning. We love exploring. We love each other.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to continue to move their bodies, while staying focused and on-task during the school day. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them--as well as meeting their social and emotional needs. Some students simply need to have slight movement when working. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a seating option that suites their needs. They almost always make good choices, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are using a flexible seating option..
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to help them remain focused and engaged in learning.
The wobble stools, bubble cushions and balance balls are all effective means of allowing small movements, while remaining seated. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. As a kindergarten teacher, I can tell you first hand that energy is at an all time high, addressing these needs with these flexible seating tools will ensure that that energy is appreciated, harnessed, and used to increase academic achievement!
