My Students
I will start by saying my kids are amazing! They are excited to learn and love new experiences. My students do best when they are given time and room to experiment with learning. I teach at two schools, a kindergarten center, and an elementary school. Both are housed on one campus with all students, K through 5th grade sharing an art room and art materials.
As a teacher, I fully believe that I am a student right alongside my kids as we learn together and explore our materials.
I benefit just as they do... trying new things, practicing, and being persistent in our search for solutions to life's problems. The art room becomes a safe place to investigate, explore, and expand our understandings.
Our school is tucked in a very small town connected to a large district. Students in our school live on farms, small townhouses, and new housing developments. We come from diverse backgrounds and have learning needs just as diverse.
My Project
Each individual creates and learns in their own unique way. Think about how you work best? Do you do spend all day at a desk, only wishing that you could type on a laptop from an easy chair? Help me create an environment in which every single student can feel at ease to make something, to create an expression of their own and be their best self.
By providing flexible seating for my students you will be giving them the freedom to be comfortable enough to create and explore.
Help put them at ease by being able to sit on a wobble stool if they feel the need to move around. Maybe they would prefer standing so they can properly move as they blend with their paintbrushes. Maybe a student feels stressed about what happened in math class earlier that day, and as we are working in our sketchbooks to practice a new skill they would rather sit on the carpet with a clipboard and a pillow.
I know I can't be expected to sit at my desk and type all day. I want my students to have the same freedom to decide how they will be their best selves, how they will be successful learners.
