This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach second grade in a Title I school, which means there are a high number of students on free and reduced-priced lunch. Many of the students do not always have the means to get school supplies and resources to help them be well prepared for school. Some of the students come from single-parent homes, live with extended family, or are homeless. I want to make sure that I provide a nurturing, safe, loving classroom where students can feel comfortable to learn and grow in their education and character. I personally believe that if they are given love, attention, encouragement, and inspiration, they can become successful in anything. My second graders learn through engaging, meaningful activities and use their creativity to apply what they have learned. I teach my students social, emotional, and academic skills through play with stuffed animals. My students are in a Personalized Learning environment, in which they complete differentiated tasks at their own pace, take ownership of their work, and reflect on their learning process.
My Project
My classroom is a personalized learning environment, in which my students take ownership of their learning styles, work choices, seat preferences, and goals to achieve. By having the flexible seats in my classroom, it will help my students find the right place to be comfortable and stay focused on completing their assignments. The seats are light and easy to carry and move to any part of the room to find the right learning spot to concentrate on their tasks. Students will be able to use the flexible seats to work individually, with a partner, or in a small group setting.
