I work in an older suburban school with a growing English as a second language population. Since we are in a more affluent area we are not given many new things because it is believed that the parents are able to provide. We are also moving to making classrooms more comfortable and accessible to all students in order to meet all of their needs.
One of the ways we can do this is by flexible seating.
This allows the students to choose where they sit and provides nontraditional seating to help the students stay focused. The district only provides traditional chairs and desks, so I am looking to change this up for my students.
Learning is all about students being comfortable. We have moved away from the traditional seats that students struggle to focus in and are trying to provide seating choices that will help the students have optimum concentration. Not all students are the same, so not all seating options should be the same. Choice is essential!
Students need a variety of seating choices to help them learn the best way to sit in order to learn.
This project will help me to give my students these kinds of choices and help them to concentrate better. Happy engaged students equal students who are learning!
