My Students

Our school is a brand new public school for students throughout Canton, OH. We will attend school on a balanced calendar, so we will go 45 days on 15 days off for the entire school year with a short summer break. My students and I are so excited to begin this adventure together. Our school is in an urban environment with 100% free and reduced lunch. Our school does ask student's families to provide supplies but the list is quite small. We need extra help getting the resources we need to excel.

Our school is a school of diverse learners with diverse needs.

My Project

In my classroom students each have a home base seat. However, throughout the day they sit around the room for centers in math and ELA. They also are able to sit in a comfortable spot for read aloud and independent reading. My students have had great success with flexible seat so far. They are very responsible with and respectful of the current options in the room. Third grade tends to be a hard transition year and I truly believe that by giving students options of how and where to complete work, it makes them more willing to complete work with more effort.

When students are comfortable they are more engaged and motivated in learning.

We are fortunate to already have access to a carpet, bean bags, and wobble stools from our district. I have also purchased a bench for students to sit on. A small couch would allow my students to have even more options to choose where they are most comfortable. In addition to options for seating at places other than their desk, I would like to make their desk more comfortable. Wobble cushions allow a student who needs a designated space to still be able to move around in their seat.
