My Students
My students range from 6th to 8th grade and live in Providence, Rhode Island. They are kind, hilarious, energetic and very excited by hands on science activities. However, many of them have not had the opportunity to do as many hands on activities as they deserve to. I also teach many English Language Learners who greatly benefit from hands on activities.
My students love working together on projects and are great at bouncing ideas off of each other to successfully figure out labs or complete projects.
My Project
Research shows flexible seating increases student well being and student engagement. Students at my school spend most of their school hours seated in uncomfortable seats with no breaks apart from 30 minutes from lunch. This type of seating and work environment does not work for all students.
I want to create a calming workspace for my students with comfortable seating and a nice atmosphere to help them focus on their work.
This will help them stay motivated and stay productive. I have asked for comfy pillows, a carpet, and a variety of comfortable seats to help create this atmosphere.
The carpet, pillows, bean bag chair and comfy floor seat will be used to decorate a corner of the classroom where select students can sit to help them stay focused. The comfy wobble seats will be put on top of the hard chairs students sit on to make them more comfortable and to help students who have a hard time staying in their seats stay focused.
