Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in primary grades requires flexibility and adapting to the unique needs of each individual student. We are learning the basic foundational skills in reading, writing, math, science, social studies and arts, all while developing the important skills of becoming well-rounded citizen. I have served in low-income areas at Title I schools all 7 years I have been teaching.
There are five different languages spoken in my classroom so students benefit greatly from visual aids and hands-on materials, manipulatives, and realia.
There is never a dull moment in my classroom. If you were to walk in, you would find a broad span of learning levels inside of these four walls. These students are all remarkable at how well they are adapting and learning together, in order to be successful in the educational world. We are constantly finding more opportunities to learn from one another and reflect on our own work.
My Project
Sit spots will be a fun way of arranging and rearranging carpet seating anywhere around the room, but will reduce transition time and maximize learning minutes instead.
The small set of lap desks would be beneficial for the students that learn more effectively from a carpet spot, because it will allow them a comfortable set up from anywhere in the room or even exploring outside!
We do a lot of artwork with our core instruction, and sharp crayons are the key in getting a nicely colored illustration while staying in the lines and creating detail in small spaces. A crayon sharpener would allow for my little artists to sharpen their crayons freshly whenever it is necessary, over and over again.
