My kindergarten class consists of 24 awesome kids. We are proudly part of a STEAM school and the only science magnet school in our district. Last year our school decided to create a Makers Lab on campus. My students have access to this lab space once per week. Our school culture is community based, ethnically diverse, and welcoming of everyone. The students in my class have curious minds and love expanding on their creative ideas. My kindergarten kids amaze me every day with their ability to overcome personal challenges and meeting both teacher and self-developed goals. An average day includes creativity, communication, and collaboration with fellow classmates. With these 21st Century skills the world is at their feet!
My Project
As my students enter kindergarten, many have different needs when it comes to how they best learn. Offering flexible seating choices gives each student the opportunity to choose the type of seating that best supports their own way of learning.
Research shows that providing movement while learning, relaxes the right side of the brain which increases focus.
Offering seating choices for active students will ensure optimum learning opportunities in class.
For students that enjoy sitting on the floor, seat cushions give them a comfortable place to sit.
As a teacher, it is important to provide varied seating choices that are different than the traditional classroom of tables and chairs. It is my desire to create a learning space that recognizes that all children learn best under different conditions. With your donation, I will be able to make this a reality for my students.
