My Students

This is the third school year of disrupted learning for my fifth graders due to Covid-19. My students walk into my classroom every morning with heavy burdens. Covid-19 has created a world of unknown for my 5th grade students, negatively impacting their desire to become independent and motivated learners.

I want my students to know that I believe in them as their teacher and know that they can do anything, even when times are difficult.

My 5th graders come from a variety of different economic backgrounds in our urban community. Our school boundaries also include our county domestic abuse center for women and their children; we open our doors to students who are temporarily housed at this shelter and who are experiencing crisis in their young lives.

My Project

Our bodies are built to move. During Covid-19, students have sat for longer periods of time while social distancing and quarantining during the pandemic. My students are having difficulty with focusing after sitting so long. Many studies show that the relationship between movement and learning is vital for optimal learning to take place. The more moving, the more learning!

Flexible movement seating in classrooms provides a physical outlet for high energy levels, while allowing students to be productive.

Flexible seating will help my students to continue their social-emotional and academic learning in light of Covid-19.
