Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students experience difficulties, both academically and socially. Their problems relate to their home situations, financial instability, poor parental involvement, and lack of motivation. This transfers negatively to their learning.

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, with close to 100% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch and about 20% living in one of the four shelters around our school, I would like my students to experience learning in an enjoyable environment.

I want to provide activities where they will be engaged and thrilled and get the chance to change their negative feelings about learning into positive ones. My students need to believe in themselves. They need to know that they can be creative thinkers and assets to the community.

My Project

Having comfortable, flexible seating would be ideal to help my students as they work on STEM and other activities on the floor. We need some comfortable floor seats. Their stuff can be contained and managed better using the table rather than the floor, especially when they are building something. Sometimes my students want to move away from their desks and 'chill' on the floor.

So flexible seating would be comfortable for my students as they sit on the floor to complete activities and they will be able to focus better rather than complaining about the discomfort of the hard floor.

This will also ease the problem of students becoming fidgety or unfocused.

I believe these comfy floor seats will help them with their spatial sense and also help them to fidget a lot less because they will be in a designated seat as opposed to sitting on the bare floor. Rather than sitting at the desk in those hard chairs all the time to work, I know the students would enjoy a change of sitting in comfy, soft seats. Let's help all these students find another way to enjoy their day's work at school; give them a soft seat rather than a hard chair. They deserve the comfort after working hard throughout the day!
