it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students work to beat overwhelming odds everyday. Each day, they show up to school, wanting to learn. There are so many barriers that they fight against; poverty, language, disabilities. And yet, each day, they continue to come into my classroom to learn.
My students are flexible learners without flexible seating.
A typical day in my classroom is working on reading comprehension skills. My seventh grade students come to me completely unprepared to read and understand grade level work, and they need materials to help them succeed. Many of my students feel more comfortable on the floor, laying back, or standing up, but there is no where for them to do so in my classroom.
Many of my students have learning disabilities, as well as come from low socioeconomic families. Basic school supplies will greatly increase my students chance of succeeding, as well as creating the equality they deserve in the classroom. My students are well below grade level, but I can see they want to learn and succeed in school, and these supplies will help ease their anxieties.
My Project
I chose wobble chairs for my students who need to move to be able to focus. In a regular classroom, these students needs are not met with regular chairs. With these chairs, they will be able to be more successful, while expending some of their energy in their seats, without being a distraction to others.
Flexible seating promotes success in the classroom.
My students are also struggling readers, and need a comfortable space to read in while tackling a book they love. The bean bag chairs and light covers will create an warm, inviting space, and students will want to read.
