Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a second grade ESL self-contained classroom. Working at a public school in New York City, I'm blessed to experience diversity daily. come from an array of different backgrounds from all around the world and have different needs including English language learners, students with special needs, and from low-income backgrounds. Students arrive to school each day determined to persevere through the rigorous curriculum, encouraging each other along the way, and becoming closer to a family each day! My school is a Title 1 school, comprised of about 1,000 children.
My students need to create a positive learning environment where seating options allow learning and engagement to take place.
Flexible seating will allow my students to be most comfortable and flourish in their learning. My goal is to provide my students with flexible seating for our classroom.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The stools will help me conference with students and allow students to work collaboratively. Students will have the opportunity to use the balance balls, wobble chairs, and floor seats to provide differentiated comfort. The fidget bands will be especially helpful for students who tend to be extra wiggly! The comfy couch will be used in our classroom library, inviting students to comfortably enjoy a good book with friends.
By implementing flexible seating in my classroom, my students' engagement and overall autonomy in our space will aide them in their journey of being life-long learners.
These flexible seating options will help my students to have a voice and choose the seating that helps them best learn and grow in the classroom.
