My Students

We are kindergarten classroom of diverse and curious learners. Our students come from varied backgrounds; for many, this is their first school experience. We are a lab school for the local university and are hosts to many student teachers who bring fun, learning, and innovation to our classrooms.

Many of our students' first language is not English and many come to us from disadvantaged backgrounds without many learning experiences to draw upon, but the one thing they all have is the desire to learn.

My Project

Flexible seating in a kindergarten classroom is essential to student learning. I would like to provide alternatives to the traditional kindergarten classroom tables and chairs. Many of my students find sitting in traditional seating uncomfortable and often times prefer to stand or lie on their tummies with a clipboard.

These materials such as comfortable low to the ground comfortable chairs and tables, lap desks and comfy pillows will give students choice in their learning and provide them with comfortable places to both read and write.

A bright and colorful classroom carpet, bean bags and large pillows will be inviting places cozy up with a good book while personal rug spots will provide each student with his or her own space for listening to stories and whole group lessons.
